TRANSGENDER MODEL MAKES HISTORY IN THE BEAUTY WORLD

TRANSGENDER MODEL ANDREJA PEJIC JUST MADE HISTORY IN THE BEAUTY WORLD

A big week in the transgender community just got bigger: Days after Caitlyn Jenner's debut, model Andreja Pejić has made history in the beauty world as the first transgender female model to front a major cosmetics campaign, according to WWD. Pejić is the face of Make Up For Ever's latest Be Bold campaign, along with actress Jamie Chung. The images were unveiled in a brief video:

Pejić, who has walked top men's and women's runways for the last decade, just completed her gender reassignment surgery last year.
"It's a dream to have a cosmetics contract as my first major campaign as a female model," Pejić told the outlet. "Being bold is about freedom. It's hard for anyone to grow up and not be afraid of what others think. Makeup helps me express myself, and I've used it in varying ways throughout my life. I have strived to live life on my own terms, to never have to hide and to never have to feel shame about who I am. I can be proud of that and I'm equally proud to share that message through this Make Up For Ever campaign." The ads will start appearing July 16 in Sephora stores.

5 WARNING SIGNS YOUR NAIL SALON IS UNSAFE

How to know if your manicure is making you — and your nail technician — sick.

Last month, The New York Times published a devastating investigative reportabout New York City nail salons that left many manicure lovers feeling sick to their stomachs about a service they once considered a guilt-free treat. The report revealed that manicurists were suffering severe long-term health consequences as a result of being exposed to the chemicals in nail products. On top of that, manicurists were not being paid minimum wage, not getting their due tips, and were often living in cramped quarters while working incredibly long hours.
If you thought it was a NYC-specific problem, the sad truth is that nail salon working conditions — especially when it comes to nail technicians' health — are a nationwide issue, according to Julie Menin, commissioner of the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, and Letitia James, New York City public advocate. Here are the signs your local salon might not be doing good by you or its employees:
1) The nail technicians aren't using masks or gloves. Nail polishes can contain what's known as the toxic trio of chemicals: formaldehyde, which causes cancer; dibutyl phthalate (DBP), which can cause reproductive damage; and toluene, which causes neurological damage. To protect themselves from the effects of these chemicals and other harmful ingredients found in polish removers, glues, and more, nail salon workers should be wearing gloves and masks. If your nail technician isn't wearing them, you can always suggest that they do so.
2) There isn't a ventilation system or there aren't any fans blowing in the salon. If you can smell that nail salon smell and it's in your face, something is wrong. Ask an employee to turn on the ventilation system, to open doors, and turn on fans. (If you're doing your own nails at home, it's good practice to do so in a well-ventilated room.)
3) Bottles are left open. If the caps are staying off, that means fumes are being disseminated into the air.
4) The salon isn't using nontoxic products. DBP is already banned from use in cosmetics in the European Union and formaldehyde is on its way to being banned in the E.U. as well. Salonsshould be using products that are known as 3-free or 5-free, meaning that they don't contain the toxic trio of chemicals. (Five-free products also don't include camphor and formaldehyde resin.)
5) There are way more technicians in the salon than there are licenses on display. Licensing requirements vary by state, but be observant. If the number of licenses compared to the number of employees feels off to you, there's probably a bigger problem about the salon's labor practices.

HOW TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOUR MANICURE

Ask the salon to stock nontoxic polishes (or bring them in yourself). We rounded up some brands, that are either 3-free or 5-free.
Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer in "Loverly," BUTTER LONDON, $18; Le Vernis in "Rose Moiré,"CHANEL, $27; "Aire of Bel-Air," LAUREN B., $18; "Bahama Mama," ESSIE, $9; "Daisy," ZOYA, $9.
Tip your nail technician directly and tip in cash. The best way to ensure that your manicurist is getting the gratuity you're leaving behind is to offer the tip, in cash, straight to your manicurist.
Establish a relationship with your nail technician. The state of New York now requires that a nail workers' bill of rights be posted in every salon; this may not be the case where you live, and salon employees might not feel as empowered to demand fair treatment. If you feel comfortable, talk to your manicurist. Ask if they are making minimum wage and getting their tips.
Spread the word about nail salons that are doing the right things. Use the hashtag#HandleWithCare to let your friends and followers know about salons that should be getting props.
After all this, you might think it's better off to stop going out to get your nails done altogether — but that's not the right answer either. Be mindful of good businesses (they're also trying to make themselves known now). Support those and the market will eventually correct itself.

Calling all my fellow trendsetters!

Did Someone Say Bumble Bee?

Honey Bee Smoky Eye

Time for some color in your life? Here's a Creative summer look to try. It's fresh, fun and exciting!

Steps:
1. Start by using an eye shadow primer (glue to your makeup)
2. Choose a neutral shade for a base eye shadow and apply all over using a medium eye-shadow brush.
3. Next, choose a crease/corner eye shadow 2-3 tones deeper than the base
4. Using an angled eye shadow brush, lightly apply to corners of the eye, using soft circular motions into the crease. Continue this until desired shadow effect is attained.
(Remember to start off light and build your color intensity, its easy to go light to dark but not dark to light. Also the stiffer the brush the darker the application. The softer the brush the lighter the application)
5. Next choose an eye shadow for the middle of your lid that blends well with the color you will choose for your lower lash line ( ie. Gold Eye shadow (middle lid) Yellow Eye liner (lower lash line)
6. Choose a luminous shimmer eye shadow for the inner corners of your eye, to open and create a pop. (Seal with same color eye shadow if desired for longer hold)
7. Line lower lash line with colored eye liner of choice
8. Line upper lash line with black eye liner for corrective or dramatic effect (ie. smoky liner, winged liner)
9. Coat lashes with choice of mascara
10. If desired, fill brows for more of a completed, defined look and or add concealer under eye for corrective purposes.

Products Used:
Eye shadow- bareMinerals READY™ 8.0 Power Neutrals ($50)
Lower Lash Line- Sephora Collection Long Wear Liner ($15)
Liquid Eyeliner- Stila Stay All Day Long wear liquid eye liner ($26)
Mascara- Immortal Lash 24 Hour Mascara ($25)

Glamorous Smoky Eye

Glamorous Smoky Eyes For a Night on The Town

 Elegant & Simply Iconic
Now I know this look have been going viral for months, if not the past year. It's simple, it's eye catching and who doesn't love a bit of glitter?

Steps:
1. Start by using an eye shadow primer (glue to your makeup)
2. Choose a neutral shade for a base eye shadow and apply all over using a medium eye-shadow brush
5. Now since you have attained most of your smoky eye, you want to add your glitter for a glamorous finish. Using Urban decay moondust eye shadow or any glitter of your choice. Using a stiff concealer brush apply glitter in a patting-slide motion for a more intense-popping effect.
6. Lastly complete look by adding a defined liner, or a winged liner for a bold finish. Coat lashes with mascara of your choice!

Products Used:
Eye shadow- bareMinerals READY™ 8.0 Power Neutrals ($50)
Glitter- Urban Decay Moondust Eye shadow- "Space Cowboy" ($24)
Liquid Eyeliner- Stila Stay All Day Long wear liquid eye liner ($26)

Iconic Double Winged Liner

Bold & Fearless

Ever seen those girls strutting those glamorous winged liners and wondered how they kept such a steady hand? Or have you ever wondered how they got the look to begin with?
Well thanks to your fellow trend setter and personal makeup artist, I have brought you an Iconic Double Winged Liner look that is simple & a complete show stopper!

Steps:
1. First start by choosing a desired color of eyeliner for your bottom lash line.
2. Once you have decided on your pop of "show stopping" color, begin by lining your lower lash line, slightly extending towards your brow bone.  (don't worry about precision at this point)
3. Once you have completed lining your lower lash line, you want to seal the color for an all-day stay. To attain this you must set the liner with a powdered eye shadow using an angled liner brush of your choice. ( at this point the angled liner brush will correct & define your line for pure precision)
4. Now that you have completed the most difficult part of the look, repeat step 2 & 3 for lash line above and complete look using your favorite mascara!!

For more advanced artists, you may like to go a step further and add your concealer under the eye area for a brighter more awake appearance, also under the brow for a more defined look!

Products Used:
Upper Lash-  Tarte Cosmetics- Lights, Camera, Lashes™ Precision Longwear Eyeliner ($24)
Lower Lash- Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil "Chaos" ($24)
Urban DEcay Eyeshadow- "Chaos"- ($22)
Mascara- Clinique Cosmetics- Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula ($20)
